1696. ROBERT COLVILL, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 13th July 1691, became schoolmaster of Jedburgh, and was licen. by the Presb. there, 14th Aug. 1695, ord. prior to 15th Dec. 1696; trans, to Yetholm in 1699.-[Edin. Grad., Presb., and Syn. Reg.]

 

1703. THOMAS HOWIE, descended from a family of Albigenses, or French Protestant refugees, called 30th Aug. 1702, and ord. 24th Feb. following; he threatened to separate from the church on account of the Oath of Abjuration, but did Dot, subsequently took it, and died 23d May 1753, in his 75th year, and 51st min. He marr. Elizabeth Davidson, who died 23d Sept. 1751, aged 80, and had a daugh., Elizabeth, who marc. John Johnston of Gutterbraes.[Presb. 1754. WILLIAM MONCRIEF, preacher, or chaplain to the miners at Leadhills, called 24th Jan., and ord. 13th June; died 12th Dec. 1784, in 71st age, and 31st min. He marr. 17th April 17 60, Ann Hardie, who died 8th June 1821, aged 86, and had a son who succeeded to the living.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Tombst., &c.]

 

1783. WILLIAM HARDIE MONCRIEFF, son of the preceding, pres. by the Curator for George, Marquis of Annandale, 11th March, and ord. (assist. and suc. 5th June; died 8th Nov. 1824, in his 64th year and 42d min. He marr. 1st 10th May 1825 Jean Laidlaw, who died at Falnash 5th Sept. 1806, aged 47, and had Helen, spouse of Mr Walter Beatty of Becks, and Mary, spouse of the Rev. Robert Shaw, Ewes; 2dly, 1st June 1808 Agnes daugh. of Mr James Gibson, surgeon, Edinburgh, she died 19th March 1842.-[Pres., and Syn. Reg., &c.]

 

1825. JAMES MONILAWS, trans. from Bathgate, pres. by the Trustees of James, Earl of Hopetoun in Feb., and adm. 2d June. He marr. 25th Nov. 1825, Isabella Luke Smellie, and has one surviving son, Rev. James John, min. of Middlebie.-Publication.-Account of the Parish (New St. Acc. iv.)-[Presb. Reg., &c.]

 

BRYDEKIRK,

Built in 1835, constituted a quoad sacra parish by the General Assembly 30th May 1836, and erected as such by the Court of Teinds 26th Jan. 1853.

 

1836. HUGH M'BRYDE BROUN, fourth son of Captain James B., licen. by the Presb. of Lochmaben 6th Aug. 1833, nominated in June, and ord. 17th Aug. 1836; joining in the Free Secession, he was declared no longer a min. of this Church, 21st June 1843, and became min. of Lochmaben Free Church same year. He died at Annan 30th Sept. 1866, aged 60, in 31st min.; having marr. a daugh. of A. Carruthers, Esq. of Warmanbie.-[Presb. Reg., New St. Acc. iv., &c.]
