Dec. 1810 aged 82, and had seven sons and four daugh., of whom Joseph was minister Plenipotentiary at the court of Berlin from his Britannic Majesty; William (father of Will. Ewart, Esq., M.P. for the Dumfries burghs) a distinguished merchant in Liverpool; John, M.D., Inspector-General of Hospitals in India; Jean marr. 1801. WILLIAM THORBURN, trans. from Girthon, pres. by Geo. III. in May, and adm. 13th Aug.; died 3d April 1846, in his 80th year and 56th min. His shrewdness and intelligence rendered him serviceable in the business of the Presb., while his application and diligence were conspicuous in the discharge of his pastoral duty. He marr. 1st Jan. 1793 Ann M'Kenzie, who died 23d Sept. 1840, and had issue four sons and five daugh.-Publications-Sermons, Edin. 1837, 8vo. MAXWELLTOWN, Erected as a chapel of Ease, and received as a quoad sacra parish by the Act of Assembly 31st May 1834.
1830. JAMES BEGG, son of the Rev. Dr. B., New Monkland, studied at the Univ. of Glasgow; was licen. by the Presb. of Hamilton l0th June 1829, and appointed assistant to the Rev. James Buchanan, North Leith; elected by the subscribers unanimously 11th March, and ord. 18th May 1830. Having been adm. to Lady Glenorchy's Chapel Edinburgh, he demitted 5th Jan. 1831.-[.Smith's Scott. Clergy iii., Presb. Reg.]
1831. DAVID BUOHAN DOUIE, A.M., son of Mr Robert D., one of the masters of the High School Glasgow; licen. by the Presb. there 6th Aug. 1827, elected by the subscribers and ord. 21st April 1831; promoted to Dryfesdale in 1833.-[Presb. Reg. &c.]
1834. JAMES RANKIN, licen. by the Presb. of Glasgow 28th March 1832, elected by the subscribers in Dec. 1833, and ord. 20th March succeeding. Having been adm. to St Andrews Chapel Dundee, he demitted 6th, which was accepted 12th Feb. 1845, and adm. to Kinnaird 13th Nov. thereafter. He marr., 24th Aug. 1836, Margaret Ritchie, and has issue.[Presb. Review ii., Presb. Reg., &c.]
URR. The church was dedicated to St Constantine, and, previous to the Reformation, belonged to the Abbey of Holywood. The parish was supplied by JOHN BROWNE, reader, from 1567, and ALEXANDER M'CARMONTH in 1585.
