1638. HUMPHREY HUDE, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 22d July 1620; was a candidate and underwent a trial for the vacant chair of Humanity in that Univ. 17th March 1630; died in Jan. 1555, aged about 55. The insicht &c. was estimai at jc merks. He marr. Margaret Carleil who died in Aug. 1692, and had Hadnee, James, William, Agnes, and Elizabeth-(Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Craufurd's Univ. of Edin., Commiss. to Ass. 1638, Wodrow MSS., Presb., Test. (Dumfr.), and Dumf. Reg. (Bur.)]
1656. JOHN CAMPBELL, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1645, called adm. in Jan. 1656; deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June, and of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662. (He is said to have been an uncle of Professor Campbell at Edinburgh, which seems improbable.)-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Presb. Reg., Wodrow's Hist.]
1679. JAMES HUME, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 1st Aug. 1667, passed trials before the Presb. of Haddington, got a testimonial on 4th, and was licen. by George, Bishop of Edinburgh 16th April 1667, trans. to Kirkmaho before 1682.-[Edin. Grad., Reg. Collat., Test. Reg. (Dumf-)]
1682. JAMES WILSON, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow 27th July 1676; continued in 1684, and was trans. to Colvend.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Dumfries Reg. (Marr.), Certif. anent Conventicbes.]
168-. WILLIAM WALKER, A.M., studied at St Leonard's College, and had his degree from the Univ. of St Andrews 28th July 1666, deserted or was deprived in 1689, went to England and got a charge.-[Act Rect. Univ. St. And., MS. Acc. of Min. 1689.]
1696. R0RERT LAWSON, called in March and ord. 28th April; demitted 14th Aug. 1701. -[Presb. Reg.]
1702. JOHN M'MURDO, A.M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 28th June 1697, called 19th April, and ord. 17th Sept. 1702; in 1715 he led out his parishioners as volunteers in defence of the reigning family and the Protestant cause. He died 19th Nov. 1720, in 39th age and 12th min., "a man of deep and prayerful piety." He marr, Alison, daugh. of William Charters of Bridgemoor, and had two sons, Robert and William, a brewer and magistrate of Dumfries.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Presb., Syn., and Test. Reg. HUGH KENNEDY, A.M., born in the north of Ireland of Scottish parents, attained his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow 9th March 1714, became chaplain to the family of Mr Douglas of Cavers, and was licen. by the Presb. of Jedburgh 5th Oct. 1720, called 20th July, and ord. 7th Sept. 1721; trans. to Cavers 22d Oct. 1723.-[Steven's Scott. 1724. ROBERT WIGHT, A.M., son of William W. tenant in Glengelt, was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 12th May 1703, licen. by the Presb. of Earlston 22d March 1709, had a competing call to Legerwood, which was laid aside by the Assembly 5th May 1710, ord. as min. to the Presbyterian congregation at Brampton 20th Aug. 1712, pres. by Charles, Duke of Queensberry and Dover in March, and adm. 22d Oct, 1724; being recalled to Brampton, lie demitted 13th Oct. 1725, which vas accepted 13th April 1726.-[Reg. 1727. WILLIAM M'MILLAN, A.M., graduated at the Univ. of Glasgow 24th March 1722, called 30th May, and ord. 22d Aug. 1727; demitted 3d, which was accepted 4th May 1762. |
