TRAILFLAT.

Previous to the Reformation the church belonged to the Abbey of Kelso. The Parish was supplied by ANDREW RENTOUN, reader, in 1567, and was united to Tinwald in 1650.

 

1607. DAVID WOD, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 28th May 1604; he was pres. to Lochmaben by James VI. 1607, but this was not carried out, and he was trans. to Gretna about 1608.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., and Pres.]

 

1613. ROBERT WARDLAW, pres. to Trailflat and Dungrie by James VI 1st March; a person of the same name who was only a preacher, having been proposed for Soutra in 1616, his settlement here seems doubtful.-[Reg. Pres., Dalkeith Presb. Reg.]

 

1627. GEORGE REDDICK, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 30th July 1614; deposed previous to 1st Sept. 1627, for apostatizing from the Church.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Sec. Sigill., and Pres.]

 

1627. SAMUEL M'GILL, A.M., son of Mr Walter M'G., min. of Cavers, graduated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 27th July 1616, pres. to T. and Dungrie by Charles I. 1st Sept. 1627; he gave x ü towards building the Library of the College of Glasgow about 1632.-[Edin. 1638. PATRICK BROUN, A.M., son of Mr John B., min. of Kirkpatrick-Irongray, acquired his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 25th July 1629; trans. to Kirkpatrick-Irongray.[Edin. Grad., Commiss. to Ass. 1638, Wodrow MS.]

 

1642. FRANCIS IRVING, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 25th July 1624, was schoolmaster of Dumfries for two years, licen. by the Presb., ord. to T. and Dungrie in 1642 ; trans. to Kirkmahoe in 1645.-(Edin. Grad., Tombst., Urr Sess., and Dumfries Reg. (Bur).]

 

TORTHORWALD.

Previous to the Reformation, the church belonged to the Monastery of Feale. The Parish was supplied by DAVID WALLACE, reader from 1567 to 1580.

 

1586. JAMES RAMSAY, trans. from Closeburn (he had been pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 14th Sept. 1582); Mousewald and Garwald were also in the charge; continued in 1601. -[Reg. Pres., and Assig.]

 

1631. JOHN NYMMO, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 28th July 1610 trans. to Holywood in 1633.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Test. Reg.]
