1681. JAMES LITTLE, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1665, passed trials before the Presb. of Peebles, and was certified 14th April 1670 for licence; outed by the rabble at the Revolution, and when " about to repossess his pulpit, was assaulted by women who tore his coat and shirt off him, and had done so with his breeches, but that he pleaded with them from their modesty." He marr. 25th April 1681 Margaret Logan of the city of Edinburgh, who had been twice marr. previously; she died in July 1683.-IEdin. Grad., Rule's Sec. Vindication, Edin. (Marr.), and Test. Reg. 1697. ALEXANDER ROBESONE, licen. by the Presb. of Kelso 20th May 1696, called in Dec. following, ord. (when it is said he was so unwilling to submit, that he endeavoured to escape, and was only brought back by the constraint and remonstrance of some of his senior brethren) 16th March 1697. He died FATHER of the Church 5th May 1761, in his 86th year and 65th min. He marr. 23d Nov. 1699, Jean Graham, who died 23d Jan. 1762, aged 86. and had three sons and seven daugh., of whom Jean marr. Mr Robert Wight, min. of Torthorwald, Janet-Mr Will. Carlyle, min. of Cummertrees, and Margaret-George Bell, provost of Dumfries -Publications The Oath of Abjuration no ground of Separation, Kirkbride, 1713, 8vo. 1762. JOHN MARSHALL, trans. from Dalton, pres. by Geo. III. 19th June 1761, and adm. 18th March succeeding; got a new church built in 1763, and died 21st Feb. 1776, in 62d age and 23d min. He marr. 7th March 1757, Henrietta Carruthers, who died 29th May 1765, and had three sons and two daugh., one of whom marr. the Rev. Alex. Scot, afterwards of Dumfries.-[Presb. 1777. JOHN WILLIAMSON, preacher or chaplain at Wanlockhead, pres. by Charles, Duke of Queensberry and Dover 8th June 1776, and ord. 27th March thereafter; died 18th Oct. 17 83, in 33d age and 7th min. He marr. 29th Dec. 1774, Janet Williamson, who died 16th Oct, 1828, and had three sons, of whom James, was surgeon at St James's, Jamaica, and a daugh.[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Tombst., &c.]
1784. JAMES LAWRIE, licen. by the Presb. of Penpont 5th Aug. 1778, pres. by Geo. III, in Feb. and ord. 2d Sept. 1784; died 26th March 1799, in 47th age and 15th min. He marr. 4th April 1785 Rachel Carlisle, who died 1st June 1826, and had five sons and two daugh., one of whom marr. 1800. GEORGE GREIG, pros. by William, Duke of Queensberry in Sept. 1799, and ord. 25th April succeeding; died 2d Feb. 1842, in 42d min. He marr. 21st Oct. 1793 Susannah Blackadder, who died 13th March 1840, and had a son George who succeeded to the benefice, and two daughters-[Presb., and Syn. Reg,, &c.]
