Charles, Duke of Queensberry and Dover 22d Sept. 1750, adm. 18th Aug. 1752 (delay having been caused by opposition from certain parishioners, and difficulties in the Presb.); died 2d Jan. 1780, in 74th age. He marr. Mary Maxwell, who died 3d July 1769, and had two son., and a. daugh. James, min. of Kirkgunzeon, George, and Ann.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Tombst. Morren's Ann. i.]

 

1781. JOHN KENNEDY, licen. By the Presb. of Haddington 24th Sept. 1765, became assistant to Mr George Reid, min. of Ochiltree, pres. by William, Duke of Queensberry 31st May 1780, ord. 8th Nov. 1781 (delay having arisen from the opposition of certain heritors); died 22d April 1790, in 56th age and 10th min. 1791. THEODORE EDGAR KEYDEN, a younger son of Mr William K., min. of Penpont, licen. by the Presb. 10th June 1788, pres. by William, Duke of Queensberry 16th July, and ord. 27th Sept. 1791; died 8th Nov. 1814, in 49th age and 24th min.-[Presb., Syn., and Test. Reg. (Dumf.), Tombst., &c.]

 

1815. GEORGE HERON, son of the Rev. James H. of Kirkgunzeon, licen. by the Presb. 5th Jan. 1814, pres. by Charles William, Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry in Dec. following. ord. 17th Aug. 1815; demitted 27th June, which was accepted 3d Oct. 1848. He died 12th April 1855, in 67th age and 40th min. He marr. 28th April 1817 Catherine M'George, who died at Broughty Ferry 29th Sept. 1861, and had five sons and four daughters-Publication-Account of the Parish (New St. Acc. iv.).-[Presb., and Syn. The Parish was supplied by ANDREW RENTOUN, vicar and exhorter, or reader, from Nov. 1567 to 1591.

 

1615. ALEXANDER THOMSONE, A.M., son of Adam T., portioner (in right of whom he entered burges and guild brother of Edinburgh 11th July 1615), took his degree at the Univ. there 28th May 1604; died before 2d Oct. 1634. A son Adam, sadler, was served heir, and entered burges of Edinburgh in right of his father 17th Aug. 1636.-[Edin. Guild Reg., Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., and Assig., Inq. Ret. Gen. 2073.]

 

1632. JOHN MAXWELL, pres. by Robert, Earl of Nithsdale before 30th Nov.-[Reg. Old Dec. iii., Glasgow Presb. Reg.]

 

1635. HARBERT (ALBERT) FAREIS, was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 14th July 1621, pres. by Robert, Earl of Nithsdale in May, and adm. 1st Sept 1635; continued 25th Sept. 1638.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Glasgow Presb. Reg., Commis. to Ass. 1638, Wodrow -MSS.]

 

1656. JOHN BROUNE, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1648, was at Leadhills, and probably preacher there, when he was called 7th Nov. 1655, adm. 18th March, after; trans. to Linton, Roxburghshire in 1664.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Presb., Lanark, and
