1669. WILLIAM WISEHEART, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1665, ord. by George, Bishop of Edinburgh, at the request of the Archbishop of Glasgow, 23d April 1669, continued 4th May 1679, and was trans. to Wamphray before 8th Feb. 1681.-[Reg. 1691. JOHN HARVIE, was a preacher in Ireland, and came over at the Revolution, called in Aug. 1690, and ord. 12th May after; demitted in July, which was accepted 10th Sept. 1695 as he had removed to Ireland, and was supposed to have taken charge of a congregation in the Presb. of Lagan (properly Glendermot)-[Reid's Ireland ii., Presb. Reg.]
1697. JOHN NISBET, A.M., studied and got his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 13th July 1691, licen. by the Presb. 17th Nov. 1696, called in July and ord. 7th Sept. 1697; died 3d Feb. 1725, aged about 54, in 28th min. He had two silver jugs and six silver spoons, weighing xxvii. oz. avoirdupois at iii s ix d per oz., lx li xv s, and some other household furniture, liiij li xiv s. He marr. Catherine, daugh. of John Grierson of Barjarg, and had a daugh. Grizell.[Presb., and Test. Reg. (Dumf.), Tombst., Edin. Grad., &c.]
1726. WILLIAM IRVINE, called by the Presb. jure devoluto 9th Sept. 1725, and ord. 4th Jan. succeeding; got a new church built in 1731, and died 6th May 1768, in his 75th year and 43d min. He marr. 27th June 1733, Elizabeth Maxwell, who died 4th Oct. 1779.-[Presb., Syn., and Test. Reg. (Dumf.)]
1769. WILLIAM WRIGHT, licen. by the Presb. of Lanark 23d Feb. 1764, pres. by George III. 13th Sept. 1768, and ord. 11th May thereafter; on which occasion the Presb. had to be protected in the discharge of their duty by the presence of a military force, as their lives were in no small danger. It gave rise to a jeu d'esprit published under the title “The Cause between Patronage and Popular Election decided in the Presb. of Friesburg." Mr W. died 9th Dec. 1819, in his 88th year and 51st min. By sinister arts the people were roused to resist his settlement among them, though in character and talent he was altogether unobjectionable. Conciliating in his manners, and rendering friendly services to those around him, he soon mollified the most infuriated, so that lie became acceptable, and lived with them in cordiality and harmony. Like the case of Reid of New-Machar, his parishioners fought against him when he came, and would have fought with equal keenness to retain him, had an attempt been made to take him away. He marr.
