1601. JOHN CURROUR, Reader at Kirkpatrick-Irongray 1589 to 1599; was pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 20th June 1606, continued in 1615, but demitted before 2d June 1618.-[Reg. Assig., and Pres.]
1618. ALEXANDER TRAN, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1607, had a testimonial from the Presb. there 15th May 1616, pres. by James VI. 2d June 1618. In 162 7 the parish contained two hundred communicants, with no school, while it had great need of one. Mr T. gave xx. li. towards building the Library of the Univ. of Glasgow, was a member of Assemblies 1638 and 1645, was deposed 20th June 1650, for certain scandalous offences, which sentence was affirmed by the Assembly in July 1651. He died in Nov. 1656, aged about 69. The buikis in his studie were estimat at xxx. li. His son Alexander was a strident at the Univ. of Glasgow 1648-9, and was served heir to a considerable portion of his property 13th Jan. 1657.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Reg. 1654. GEORGE JOHNSTOUNE, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh 28th July 1648, called in Sept., and adm. 23d Oct. 1654; trans. to Newbattle 12th June 1660.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Presb. Reg., New St. Acc. iv., &c.]
1661. WILLIAM MEIN, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edin. in 1655, ord. min. at Tweedmouth 28th Feb. 1659, called in Nov. 1660, and adm. 19th Feb. succeeding ; deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June, and of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662. He was indulged at Dunlop by the Council 3d Sept. 1672, but declined to accept it, and was ordered by them to be denounced 6th Nov. 1673.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Presb. 1677. JOHN GILLESPIE, son of Robert G., merchant in Cumnock, died in March 1683. The insicht was estimat at xl. li. He marr. Barbara Hervie, who died in Oct. 1697, and had issue Robert and Margaret-[Inq. Ret. Gen. 7 184, Test. (Dumf.), and Dumf. Reg. (Bur,), Tombst., New St. Acc. iv.]
1684. PATRICK CIJNINGHAM, A.M., graduated at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1666, resided in Hawick, passed trials before the Presb. of Jedburgh, and had a testimonial 4th Feb. 1684 for licence, and another 25th April thereafter for ordination; trans. to Kirktoun in 1687.[Edin. 168-. JOHN WILLOCKS, outed by the people in 1689, and deposed for scandalous drunkenness, swearing, sabbath-breaking, &c. He had a son Patrick, and a daugh. Kathren-[MS. Acc. of Min. 1689, Dumfries Reg. (Bur.)]
