at Bothwell, he retired to London, and died in the house of Mrs. Frazer of Brae, at Wapping, 9th Jan. 1681, aged about 54, in 28th min. His funeral was the most numerously attended that had ever been seen at London, having been accompanied by "a vast number of ministers, persons of fashion, and some hundreds of coaches."-Publications-A Sermon preached at Nemphlarbrae in Clidsdale, Edin. 1703, 4to. 1663. BERNARD SANDERSONE, A.M., formerly of Keir, adm. in 1663, but not having peaceable access, he was protected by an armed force. The opposition arose from women in the parish of the humbler class, led by a Margaret Smith, who was afterwards tried for it; they prevented his entrance, however, for the day. 1668. JAMES LASONE, A.M., trans from, an Aberdonian, who took his degree at the Univ. and King's College 13th July 1658, licen. by George Bishop of Edinburgh 18th May 1663, and got a settlement as it was proposed 1st Oct. 1666, to translate him either to Ardrossan or Beith in Ayrshire, pres. to this par. by Alex. 1690. JOHN SINCLAIR, son of Mr John S.. min. of Ormiston, and afterwards of Delft, called in Sept., and ord. 16th Dec. 1690; died in 1693, in 3d min. He was much given to mathematical studies, but unfortunately disposed to melancholy. He marr. Jean Maxwell, and had a daugh. Sarah.-[Presb., and Dumfries Reg. (Marr., and Bur.), Wodrow's Anal.]
1694. JAMES GUTHRIE, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 28th June 1690, licen. by the Presb. 17th May 1694, called in July, and ord. 13th Sept. same year. After taking the Oath of Abjuration in 1712, fourteen young persons left hearing him and set up two societies. All of them, however, except two, in less than a year fell into scandalous transgression. During a severe fever which seized many of his parishioners, he and his session appointed a congregational fast, and it was matter of congratulation that though several had previously died, the fever from that time abated, and all others recovered. ARCHIBALD LITTLE, trans. from Morton, pres. by Walter Riddel of Newhouse 14th Oct. 1756, by James Maxwell of Barncleugh same day, and by Patrick Heron, younger, of Heron 21st Oct. 1756 (George II. having, 20th Aug. previous, pres. Mr James Biggar, min. of Keswick, caused a delay, till the Court of Session, 1st Dec. 1757, declared Mr Riddel the undoubted patron), adm. 12th April 1759; died 8th Jan. 1774, in 40th min.; having studied medicine, he was very able in diagnosing diseases. He marr., in 1746, Christian, daugh. of James Wauchope of Comistoun; she died at Dumfries 21st Feb. 1805, and had a son, James, min. of Colvend.-[Presb. Reg., &e.]
