1725. EDWARD BUNCLE, A.M., formerly of Lochmaben, pres. by Charles, Duke of Queensberry and Dover l0th April, and adm. 28th Sept.; demitted 31st Oct. 1748, which was accepted 3d Jan. 1749 ; and died at Heuk in Annandale 17th Aug. 1777, in his 83d year and 54th min. He was “long distinguished for his liberal way of thinking, and for his manly and flowing eloquence, both in the pulpit and judicatories of the Church." He marr., 4th Feb. 1734, Catherine Reid, and left a daugh., Margaret, by a former marriage.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Weekly Mercury i., &c.]

 

1750. ARCHIBALD LAWSON, son of Mr John L., min. of Closeburn, licen. by the Presb. of Penpont, pres. by Charles, Duke of Queensberry and Dover 11th Oct. 1749, and ord. 3d May succeeding; died 14th Dec. 1796, in his 77th year and 47th min. He marr. 27th Jan. 1752, Mary Guthrie, who died in March 1820, and had four sons and five daugh., James, engineer, Birmingham, Archibald, merchant, Glasgow, John, Gilbert, Elizabeth, Ann, Janet, Susanna, and Mary.-Publication-Account of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Ac. ii.).-[Presb., and Syn. 1797. JOHN WIGHTMAN son of William W., in Glaisters, bapt. 12th Aug. 1762, became assistant in the grammar school Dumfries, licen. by the Presb. of Edinburgh 28th April 1 7 90, pres. by William, Duke of Queensberry in June, and ord. 21st Sept. 1797; he got a new church built in 1822, had D.D., from the Univ. of Glasgow in March 1837, and died 14th July 1847, in his 86th year and 50th min. His accomplishments as a scholar were only outshone by his devotedness to ministerial duty, affectionate solicitude for his parishioners, and universal benevolence.-Publications-Eleven single Sermons, Dumfries, 1812-1845, 8vo. KIRKPATRICK-IN-THE-MURE, PROPERLY KIRKPATRICK-DURHAM.

The church was dedicated to St. Patrick, and previous to the Reformation belonged to the Cistertian monks ol New-abbey or Sweet-heart. The parish was supplied by ANDREW EDZAR, reader, from 1567 to 1580, and WALTER TURNOR in 1585.

 

16-. JOHN DOUGLAS, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh 30th July 1601, having "thir divers years bygane travellet in the function of the ministry, and willing to continue therein;" was pres. by James VI. 20th April 1610. 1638. ADAM BROUN, A.M., son of Mr James B., min. of Kirkpatrick-Irongray, was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 25th July 1629; pres. by Charles I. 18th Dec. 1641, coll.
