1615. THOMAS HOG, A.M., trans. from Dysart 2d Charge, to which he returned soon after. -[Reg. Assig.]
1637. ROBERT BROUNE, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1615, pres. by Charles I. 28th June 1637, about which time he gave xx merks towards building the Library and Univ. of Glasgow; he was thrust out, without any process, in 1638 for refusing to subscribe the Covenant, Dot suffered to stay within the kingdom, leaving Janet Irving, his spouse, and seven young children. He subscribed the Covenant, and was recommended by the Assembly 1643 for admission to the Earl of Irvine's regiment, but subsequently became Chaplain to that of the Earl of Middleton. He returned with his Majesty in 1648, serving still in the army, till the final defeat of the cause at Worcester in 1651, when he retired to Campvere in Zealand, in a reduced condition, having never visited, and only once corresponded with his family. After an absence of twenty-two years, his wife solicited the Parliament and obtained an Act in her favour, 13th March 1661, of the vacant stipend of Kirkbean. 1643. CHARLES ARCHIBALD, A.M., obtained his degree at the Unix. of Glasgow in 1635, was a member of the Commission of Assembly in 1648, and died 13th April 1658, aged about 43. His Frie geir, d.d., amounted to iijc lxxüj li. iiijs. vjd. He marr. Jean Porteous, who survived him, and had a son, Charles, who entered prentice to Thomas Dalrymple, apothecary, Edinburgh 4th Dec. 1667.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Reg. 1660. ANTHONY MURRAY, A.M., had his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh in July 1654, called , and adm. 15th Aug. 1660; deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June and of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662, accused of turbulent and seditious carriage, he was charged to appear before the Privy Council 23d July 1663.-[Edin. 1675. RICHARD SCOTT, A.M., got his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh 30th June 1658; continued 4th June, but was trans. to Ashkirk after 16th Oct. 1685.-[Edin. Grad., Test. (Dumf,), and Dumfries Sess. Reg.]
168-. ROBERT MOIR, A.M., trans. from Girthon; deserted his charge in 1688, and died at Edinburgh 23d March 1705, aged about 67.-[MS. Acc. of Min. 1689, Edin. Reg. (Bur.)]
1687. HUGH CLANNIE, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1675,called in Nov., and ord. (in Dumfries meeting-house) 14th Dec. 1687, was a member of the Assemblies 1690, 1692, and deposed in 1696 for drunkenness. He was banished by the Lords of Justiciary 3d March 1713, for marrying persons irregularly. He afterwards joined the Levellers, or Dykebreakers, a party which arose in Galloway about 1724, proposing to take the government into their own bands, and being the only person who had learning among them, was employed in drawing up their papers.-Publication-Inquisitionem novem et inter Evangelicos hactemus inauditam; or ane Account of his Process, Lond. 1698, 4to.-[Reg.
