1665. JOHN MALCOLME, licen. by George, Bishop of Edinburgh, 23d July 1663, and ord. by him 20th Dec. 1665, outed by the people at the Revolution, and died in April 1718, in 53d zain. He marr. 31st Aug. 1682, Alison Charteris, in the par. of Dumfries, and had a son. John, and four daugh., Agnes, Anna, Jean, and Marion, who marr. Mr Tho. Thomson, min. of Applegarth.-[Reg. 1687. WILLIAM M`MILLAN, of Caldow, licen. by the Presbyterian min. of Down, Ireland, in 1673, was imprisoned for sonie time at Dumfries for nonconformity, at the instance of Moir, min. of Balmaclellan, but liberated 3d May 1677, on the representation of Will., Earl of Dumfries, and confined to said parish; he was again confined at Kirkcudbright and Dumfries for thirty-five months together, declared fugitive 5th May 1684, carried prisoner to Edinburgh in Nov. following, and sent to the castle of Dunotter 18th May 1685, where he and about a. hundred and fifty others arrived after six days' cruel treatment on the journey; nor was their situation improved after reaching it, as they were crowded within damp, unventilated, and dark vaults, till Mrs  M'Millan petitioned the Privy Council, who ordered the governor to give him gentler usage; he got released in Sept. on granting a bond of compearance when called, under a penalty of vm merks, and returned to Balmaclellan; called in Nov. and ord. (in Dumfries meetinghouse) 14th Dec, 1687, was a member of the Assemblies 1690, 1692, and the first Moderator of Synod after the Revolution. He died 25th Feb. 1697, in 10th min. 1698. ROBERT BLAIR, called in Sept. 1697, ord. 27th Sept. 1698; died 3d June 1724, in 60th age and 26th min. He marr., 29th April 1701, Anna, daugh. of James Muirhead, late bailie of Dumfries, and had an only daugh., Jean.-[Presb., Syn., Test. (Dumf), and Dumf. Reg. (Marr,), Tombst., New St. Acc. iv.]

 

1725. JOHN SCOTT, licen. by the Presb. of Edinburgh 26th Sept. 1722, pres. by Robert Ferguson of Fourmerkland 29th, Oct. 1724, and ord. 4th Feb. alter; trans. to Dumfries (New Church) in Nov. 1732.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., New St. Acc. iv.]

 

1734. THOMAS HAMILTON, A.M., acquired his degree at the Vniv. of Glasgow 4th May 1725, licen. by the Presb. of Hamilton 26th Oct. 1731, pres. by Robert Ferguson of Fourmerkland in Nov. 1733, and ord. 21st Feb. thereafter; he retired on account of his age to Glasgow, and died 24th June 1772, aged about 67, in 39th min. He marr. 30th Sept. 1736, Sarah Zuill, who died 31st Oct. 1787, in her 89th year-[Man. Univ. Glasg. iii., Presb, and Syn. Reg., New St. Acc. iv. &c.]

 

1771. BRYCE JOHNSTON, son of John J. of Outterbraes, Provost of Annan, born 2d March 1747, studied at the Univ. of Edinburgh, licen. by the Presb. of Annan 4th Oct. 1769, called 21st Feb., and ord. (assist. and suc.) 22d Aug. 1771; got a church built in 1779, had D.D. from the Univ. of Edinburgh 12th June 1786, and died 27th April 1805, in 59th age, and
