1585. ARCHIBALD SINCLAIR, removed from Lochrutton, "having his awin benefice, the chantorie of the Chapel Royal Stirling;" he was pres. to the Vicarage Pension of S. by James VI. before July 1592, and continued 21st Aug. 1593, when Kirkbane, Carlaverok, and Balywood were also in the charge. 1612. DAVID HOPE, son of Alex. H., tailor in Edinburgh, pres. to the Vicarage of Suddick and Cowen by James VI. 21st Sept.; continued in 1615, and removed to Colvend-[Reg. Pres., and Assig., Edin. Guild Reg.]
DUNSCORE. The church, previous to the Reformation, belonged to the Abbey of Holywood. The parish was supplied by JOHN WELCHE, vicar and exhorter in 1567, and JOHN JAMESON, reader, from 1574 to 1585.

GEORGE HARRATT, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 29th July 1598, on the Exercise, and got a testimonial from the Presb. there 10th Feb. 1602, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 18th Nov. following; trans, to Kirkmaho before 1607.-[Edin. 1615. GEORGE BLAKE, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1607, was an expectant in that Synod 4th Sept. 1611, pres. by James VI. 18th July 1615 and 16th June 1617, continued 18th Sept. 1638, but demitted previous to 12th March 1640, when the Presb. requested the Presb, of Lanark, of that date, to deal with his son William, servant to the Laird of Lamington, anent the teinds of the parish.-(Act. ROBERT BROOME, A.M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1633, adm. by the Presb. in 1641, pres. by Charles I. 18th Dec. same year; deposed 16th May 1648 (probably for not supporting the popular cause, against "the Engagement "); he was alive 30th July 1654, when Margaret Stewart, his spouse, received from the kirk-session of Humbie |
