1734. ANDREW BEVERIDGE, licen. by the Presb. of Edinburgh 24th June 1730, called 14th June, and ord. 8th Aug. 1734; died in Feb. 1776, in 74th age and 42d min. He marr. 26th Nov. 1740, Jean Ferguson of Four-merkland, who died 29th April 1778, and had two sons and ten daugh., of whom Jean marr. Mr James M'Millan, min. of Torthorwald, Agnes, Charles Blackstock, surgeon, Dumfries, and Mary, John Murray at Drumlanrig.-[Presb., Syn. and Test. Reg. (Dumf.), Tombst., New St. Acc. iv., &c.]

 

1776. JAMES KIRKPATRICK, licen. by the Presb. of St. Andrews 21st Dec. 1768, ord. as min. to the Presbyterian congregation at Oulton 11th Aug. 1773, pres. by Charles, Duke of Queensberry and Dover 28th June, and adm. 19th Sept. 1776; died 14th Nov. 1783, in 41st age and 11th min. He marr. Willoughby Bullen.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Tombst.]

 

1784. WILLIAM M'MORINE, son of Mr Robert M'M., min. of Kirkpatrick-Durham, licen. by the Presb. of Kirkcudbright 7th Feb. 1781, pres. by William, Duke of Queensberry 22d March, and ord. 26th Aug. 1784. Had D.D. from the Univ. of Edinburgh 27th May 1811, was elected Moderator of the Gen. Assembly 21st May succeeding, and died unmarr. 3d Nov. 1832, in his 77th year and 49th min. "He was a man of soberand unaffected piety, abhorring deceit in every form, and a bright pattern of high-toned and uncompromising virtue. Possessing a compass of various knowledge, he was enabled to discharge the multifarious and important duties of the ministry with uncommon ability and usefulness. His sermons were solid, rational, and edifying; free from the flights of unbridled fancy, vagueness, verbiage, and declamation, they were affectionate and forcible, brought home to the business of life, and to the bosoms of his audience with authority and power. While utility was his great object, yet he did not disdain the graces and beauties of style which he had at command, so that his discourses frequently exhibited specimens of the highest order of elegant composition." 1833. ROBERT GILLIES, A.M., son of Colin G., Esq., Provost of Brechin, took his degree at the Univ. and King's College, Aberdeen in March 1825, licen. by the Presb. of Brechin 12th Aug. 1829, became assistant to the Rev. James Burns of that city, pres. by Charles, Marquis of Queensberry in Nov. 1832, and ord. 18th April following; deposed 30th April 1846, for drunkenness and using indecent language. He died 15thNov.1848. He marr. 28th Nov. 1833 Margaret Anne Irvine, and had three sons and two daughters. Publication-Account of the Parish (New St. Acc. iv).-[Degrees King's College, Presb.
