1715. ROBERT PATOUN, A.M., trans. from 2d Charge, pres. by George I. 19th March, and adm. 5th April; died 22d Oct. 1738, aged about 78, in 51st min. The cups and other equipage of a tea-table were valued at xxx. li., Inventar and debts jc lxvi. li. He marr., 1st, 5th Jan. 1690, Jean daugh. of James Muirhead, bailie of Dumfries; she died 5th March 1700, aged 35; 2dly, Elizabeth, daugh. to Mr John Osburn, min. of Kirkoswald; 3dly, Barbara Fingas, who survived him, issue, Mr Robert, min. of Renfrew, Mr William, min. of Dailly, Francis, surveyor of Customs, Dumfries, John, limner there, Sarah, wife of Mr Christoph. Wright, min. of Urr, Mary, wife of Mr Will. Stewart, min. of Kirkbean, and Marion, beside three sons and a daugh. who died young.-[Presb., Sess. (Marr., and Bur.), anal Test. Reg. (Dumf.)]

 

1732. ROBERT WIGHT, A. M., min. at Brampton, formerly of Torthorwald, called 13th July, and adm. (assist. and suc.) 30th Nov.; got the church rebuilt in 1747, and died 11th Dec. 1764, in his 80th year, and 53d min. He marr. 3d Nov. 1726, Jean daugh. of Mr Alex. Robesone, min. of Tinwald, she died 25th Feb. 1788, aged 85, and bad Dr William, Prof. of Divinity in the Univ. of Glasgow, and six daugh., Bell, Janet, Margaret, May, Alison, and Helen-[Presb., and 8yn. Reg., Tombst., Carlyle's Autob.]

 

1765. THOMAS MUTTER, trans. from Auchtermuchty, pres. by George III. April, and adm. 4th July; had D.D. from the Univ. of Glasgow 25th Feb. 1779, and died 25th Feb. 1793, in 83d age, and 57th min. He marr. 1st, 23d July 1756, Isobel Balcanqual, who died 13th Nov. 1763, and had a son and three daugh.; 2d1y, 15th Sept. 1766, Isobel Costin, who died 22d Jan. 1822, and had two daugh., one of whom marr. 1794. WILLIAM BURNSIDE, D.D., trans. from the New Church, Ares. by George III. in Feb., and adm. 19th June; died 5th Jan. 1806, in 55th age, and 31st min. His elegant taste, cultivated talents, extensive information, and impressive manner, rendered him highly useful, while his warmth of heart endeared him to society. He marr. Ann daugh. of Mr James Hutton, merchant, Leith, she died 29th July 1838, and had three sons and six daugh., of whom Margaret marr. Will. Walker, Esq., late of Jamaica; Mary, Will. Taylor, Esq. of Kelton, Anne the Rev. Will.
