1640. ALEXANDER SCOTT, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews; 16th July 1620, adm. 20th Feb. 1640; died before 23d Aug. same year, aged about 40, in 1st min. Act. Rect. Univ. St And., Sess. Reg., Milne, & Bower's Descrip.]
1641. DAVID FLETCHER, A.M., formerly of Edinburgh, adm. 4th Feb; he was a member of the Commissions of Assembly 1645, 1647, and promoted to the Bishopric of Argyll in 166`)., yet retaining the par. in conjunction, till he died in March 1665, aged about 60, leaving funds for building a school-house.-[Sess., and Test Reg. 1690. ROEERT WILSOU, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh, 13th June 1651, he was a min. and attended the general meeting of Presbyterians 6th July 1687, called and adm. 9th Sept. 1690, he was a member of Assembly in 1692, and died 5th March 1713, in his 80th year.-[Edin. 1711. ADAM MILNE, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 7th July 1698, licen. by the Presb. of Chirnside 24th September 1706, had a competing call from Legerwood, which was laid aside by the Assembly bth May 1710, called 26tb Jan., and ord. (colleague and suc.) 8th May 1711; died 8th June 1747, aged about 67, in 37th min; having been a man of respectable talent and research. He marr. Alison, daugh. of Mr William Hunter, min. of Lilliesleaf, she died in Dec. 1771, and had a daugh.-Publication-A Description of the parish of Melrose, Edin., 1743, 8vo.-[Presb. 1748. JAMES BROWN, A.M., youngest son of Mr John B. min. of Abercorn, bapt, 17th Dec. 1721, attained his degree at the Univ. of Edin. 27th April 1742, licen. by the Presb. of Perth 23d July 1745, pres. by Lady Isabella Scott in July 1747, and ord. 10th Feb. succeeding; he got a bleachfield established for encouraging linen manufacture in the parish. It was proposed to promote him to South Leith in 1765, but he was trans. to Edinburgh (New Greyfriars), 5th May 1767.-[Abercorn Sess., and Presb. Reg., Edin. 1768. FREDERICK MACLAGAN, son of Mr Alexander M’L. min. of Little Dunkeld, born 31 st May 1738, licen. by the Presb. of Dunkeld 2d Sept. 1760, became assistant at Alloa, pres. by Henry, Duke of Buccleuch, in Oct. 1767, and ord. 6th March following Rumours were spread against him, and a libel raised, charging him with adultery, from which he was assoilzied by the presbytery. He found it expedient however to retire in 1788, and died at Hayfield, Stirlingshire, 12th Aug. 1818, in his 81st year and 51st min.
