1799. john stewart, licen. by the Presb. of Perth 31st Aug. 1785, and ord. by them 25th Jan. 1797, as Chaplain to the Fifeshire Fencible Cavalry, pres. by the Trustee on the Marchmont Estate—,and adm. 26th Sept. 1799; died 6th Feb. 1804, in his 43d year, and 8th min. 1804. james luke, licen. by the Presb. of Dalkeith 24th Nov. 1795, became assistant to the Rev. Dr Hugh Blair, Edinburgh, and was appointed Morning Lecturer by the Town Council there 13th March 1801, pres. by John Wauchope, Esq., Trustee on the Marchmont Estate—, and ord. 30th Aug. 1804; died from the effects of a fall from his horse, an old Waterloo charger, 9th Sept. 1820, in 17th min. He marr. 4th Oct. 1804 Eliza, youngest daugh. of Mr Adam Keir, baker, Edinburgh; she died 21st Sept. 1859, without issue. [Presb. Reg., Tombst., &c.]
1821. abraham home, of Windshiel, formerly of Ayton, pres. by Sir William Purves Hume Campbell, of Marchmont and Purves, Bart, in Oct. 1820, and adm. 29th March following; demitted 28th, which was accepted 31st May 1844, and died at his property of Guns-green 3d May 1856, in his 81st year, and 57th min. He marr. 30th April 1821 Susan, eldest daugh. of Patrick Anderson, Esq., writer to the signet, she died 20th March 1831, and had a son and two daugh., Dr Patrick, Anne Mary, and Margaret.—Publication—Account of the Parish (New St. Acc. ii.) LANGTON. Previous to the Reformation the church belonged to the Abbey of Kelso. It was supplied by john leiche, reader, from 1574 to 1580.
1585. john home, trans, from Hutton, when Fogo was also under his care; trans, to Ayton in 1586. [Reg. Assig., Wodrow Miscell.]
1586. william methwen, trans, from Hutton, pres. by James VI. to the vicarage of Swyntoun 25th May same year; which he demitted before 27th April 1587; continued in 1589, was trans, to Fogo in 1590, but returned 1591; was a member of Assembly in 1593, and again trans, to Fogo after 1595.—[Reg. 1607. samuel sinclair, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 28th July 1599, pres. to the vicarage by James VI. 23d Nov. 1608, and to the modified stipend 1st Oct. 1610, he was called before the Court of High Commission in 1620. Seven years afterwards it is stated, the parish had “off communicantis foure hundreth and fyftie, and sometimes fyue hundreth." |
