1772. ROBERT POTTS, licen. by the Presb. of Jedburgh 2d Oct. 1754, became min. of the Presbyterian congregation at Brampton, pres. by Francis, Lord Napier in Oct. and adm. 9th Dec. 1772; demitted 18th April, which was accepted 9th May 1780; he became min. of the Presbyterian congregation at Hutton, in Cumberland, and died 1st Jan. 1806, aged 81. He marr., 13th May 1779, Elizabeth Mennons, who died 3d Dec. 1831.-[Presb. Reg., New St. Acc. iii., &c.]

1786. DAVID GRANT, born in the par. of Madderty April 1750, studied philosophy at the Univ. of St. Andrews, and theology at that of Edinburgh, where he became teacher in George Watson's Hospital, and was licen. by the Presb. there 29th July 1778. He was a member of the Committee of Correspondence for supporting the Protestant interest in 1779, was ord. by the Presb. of Edinburgh 14th Nov. 1781, as min. of the Presbyterian Meeting-house, Groatmarket, Newcastle; pres. to this par. by Francis, Lord Napier, in March, and adm. 4th May 1786; trans. to Ochiltree 7th Nov. same year.-[Sermons ii., Presb. 1787. ROBERT GILLAN, son of the Rev. Robert G., Lessudden, pres. by Francis, Lord Napier, in April, and ord. 11th May; trans. to Hawick 17th Dec. 1789.-[Presb. Reg.]
1790. ROBERT RUSSELL, A.M., born at Wester Dunmuir, Fife, in 1766. He was confided in early life to the care of an uncle, a farmer in the par. of Cults, and educated at a private school, taught by Mr James Boucher, afterwards Associate Antiburgher min. at Cumbernauld. He studied at the Univ, of Edinburgh, and subsequently at that of St Andrews, where be held a bursary for two years, attracted the favourable notice of Mr Geo. Hill, Professor of Greek, and took his degree in 1775. He then taught a school, under the patronage of the bailies of Auchtermuchty, for a year and a half. He attended divinity at the Halls of Edinburgh and St Andrews, and through the aid of the Rev. Peter Barclay of Kettle, was engaged as tutor in the family of Spottiswoode of Dunipace, and afterwards in that of the Hon. Charles Napier, of Merchiston Hall, with whom he remained four years. He was licen. by the Presb. of Linlithgow 18th June 1788, pres. by Francis, Lord Napier, 5th Feb., and ord. 6th May 1790; trans. to Yarrow 2d Aug. 1791.-[Presb. Reg., Conolly's Fifesh. Biog. &c.]
1791. CHARLES PATON, A.M., teacher of a school at Callander, Perthsh. licen. by the Presb. of Deer 15th Sept. 1779, became preacher at Caerlanrig Chapel, now Teviothead, pres. by Francis, Lord Napier, in Sept., and ord. (at Selkirk, as the Presb. had been prevented going to Etterick, the place appointed, by a severe storm of snow) 8th Dec. 1791; died of apoplexy 18th Feb. 1818, in his 64th year, and 27th min.-[Presb.
