1795. WILLIAM BALFOUR, licen. by the Presb. of Jedburgh 9th Sept. 1791, called 1st Oct., and ord. (assist. and suc. 26th Nov. 1795; died 29th Dec. 1828, in his 62d year, and 34th min. He marr., 17th Sept. 1798, Mary Mein, who died 31st May 1852, and had two daugh. Isabella, and Harriet who marr. Dr Scott, Gilmerton.-[Presb. Reg., &c.]
1829. THOMAS JOLLY, promoted from Keiss, pres. by the Trustees of James Henry Robert, Duke of Roxburgh 23d Jan. and 18th Feb., and adm. 20th Aug. Joining in the Free Secession, however, and signing the deed of Demission, he was declared no longer a min. of this Church 27th June 18431 and died 30th May 1859, in 65th age and 32d min. 1618. ROBERT MAIRTINE, A.M., trans. from Mow, adm. (at Peebles) 5th May; he gave x li toward building the Library in the College of Glasgow 1st Aug. 1632, was a member of the Assembly in 1638, and trans. to Eckford 21st April 1641.-lPresb., and Jedburgh Presb. 1641. ALEXANDER CUNYNGHAME, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews in 1631, pres. by Charles I. 16th April 1641. He refused to conform to Episcopacy in 1662, was proprietor of Hyndhope, and left two sons, James, (who succeeded to the estate, which is still in possession of his descendant, James C., Esq., writer to the signet,? and Alexander, born in 1654, who, originally destined for the Church, became a travelling tutor, was minister to the States of Venice, and known as author of the History of Great Britain from 1688 to the Accession of George I., Transl. from the Latin by Dr. William Thomson, 2 vols., Lond. 1787, 4to.[Act. 1689. JAMES ADAMSON, A.M., trans. from Langnewton; he was accused before the Privy Council 19th Sept. 1689, of not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, and not praying for their majesties William and Mary, but for the restoration of James VIL, of not observing the Fast, but suffering his servants to work that day, and harbouring disaffected persons, these charges being found not proven, he was acquitted. He demitted, however, in 1693, and died in 1694, aged about 51, in 26th min.-[MS. Acc. of Min. 1689, Peterkin's Constitut. of the Church, Inq. Ret. de Tut. 1122.]
