1645. robert home, A.M., trans, from Ellem. He was a member of the Commission of Assembly 1649, and died 12th Dec. 1673, in his 79th year. His utencils, &c., were estimate at jc merks (One Hundred Pounds), and the Free geir, d.d., jm ixc xxxvj li. xix s (One Thousand Nine Hundred Pounds and Nineteen Shillings). 1674. john home, eldest son of John H., portioner of Kello, licen. by George, Bishop of—, Edinburgh, 17th June 1673, pres. by Sir Patrick Home of Polwarth, Bart.,—and adm. 10th May, and coll. 11th Aug. 1674; deprived by the Privy Council 17th Sept. 1689, for not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, not praying for their majesties William and Mary, nor observing the Thanksgiving. While serving in the meeting-house at Eyemouth, he was deposed by the Presb. of Chirnside, 29th April 1718, for giving baptism to persons of scandalous character, and 30th Sept. following, they proposed laying the same before the Justices, with an accusation of his not praying for King George. On the Justices declining to interfere with the Act of Toleration, the Presb. resolved to prosecute before the Court of Justiciary, and he was prohibited by the Circuit Court at Jedburgh 29th May 1719; he was preacher at Herdrig 23d February 1731.—[Presb., Chirnside Presb., and Test. 1693. archibald borthuik, A.M., second son of Andrew B. of Sauchnell, studied and acquired his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 14th July 1659, was a young man ready for trials at the meeting of Presbyterian ministers 6th July 1687, called in Oct. 1692, ord. 21st March 1693. Mr B. being chaplain to Lord Polwarth's Dragoons, was challenged in the Presb. 9th Nov. 1708, "as being contrary to our principles;" they referred the case to the Commission of Assembly, who in spring 1709 " give it as their advice that the Presb. need not make any question about Mr. B., seeing the par. of Greenlaw was, and is, under no disadvantage thereby, and the regiment sustains as little prejudice, they being quartered at several places of great distance, each troop being proper parishioners in the congregations where they are quartered." 1707. david brown, AM., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 7th July 1698, licen. by the Presb. of Chirnside 31st Oct. 1704, called 31st Oct. 1706, ord. (colleague and suc.) 3d June after; trans, to Gordon 7th Nov. 1708.—[Edin. Grad., Presb. Reg., Boston's Mem.]
1711. james gilliland, licen. by the Presb. of Earlston 23d Jan. 1707. He assisted Mr John Hardie of Gordon from May till after Nov.; called 5th Sept. 1710, ord. 6th Feb. 1711; died in Sept. 1724, in 14th min. 1725. thomas turnbull, son of Mr George T., min. of Tyningham, bapt. 28th Sept. 1701, licen. by the Presb. of Dunbar 25th March 1724, pres. by Alexander, Earl of Marchmont in Jan., and ord. 3d Aug. 1725; trans, to Borthwick in 1734.—[Tyningham Sess., and Presb. Reg.]
