1753. JAMES FORD, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh 14th April 1743, licen. by the Presb. there 26th Nov. 1746, ord. by the Presbyterian Class of Northumberland 31st July 1751, as min. to the congregation at Warnford, pres. by James, Earl of Lauderdale in Aug., and adm. 27th Sept. 1753; had D.D. from the Univ. of Edinburgh 25th Oct. 1785, and died 24th Sept. 1810, in his 87th year, and 60th min. He marr. 23rd June 1759 Isabel Kirkland in the par. of Livingston, who died 30th Nov. 1794, and left issue. 1811. PETER COSENS, trans. from Torryburn, pres. by James, Earl of Lauderdale, in March, and adm. 27th June; died 20th Aug. 1845, in 64th age and 36th min. He marr. 24th Feb. 1819 Catharine only daugh. of the Rev. Alexander Thomson, Carnock, and had John, writer to the signet, Peter, an advocate, Alexander, min. of Broughton, Anne M., who marr. CHANNEL-KIRK, CHINGLE-KIRK, or GINGIL-KIRK.

The church was dedicated to the Holy Innocents, and previous to the Reformation belonged to the Abbey of Dryburgh. It was served by JOHN GIBSOUN, reader, in 1576.

 

1611. ALLAN LUNDIE, A.M., trans. from Lessudden, "licenciate by the Presb. 28th May to tak him to one of those kirks Chinilkirk or Hassendean, resolutlie answerit that he would go to the latter." Being burdened for his full answer 4th June, he referred himself to the Presbytery's advice and council, who, for the most part, advised him to go to the former, adm. (after llth June) 1611; trans. to Hutton and Fishwick in 1614.-[Presb. Reg., Reg. Pres.]

 

1615. FRANCIS COLLACE, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 28th July 1610, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 10th Dec. 1614, and adm. 17th Sept. thereafter; he signed the Protestation for the Liberties of the Kirk, with fifty-four others, 27th June 1617; trans. to Gordon in 1625.-[Reg. 1625. HENRY COKBURN, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of St. Andrews 26th July 1613, pres. by Charles I. 4th July 1625. Two years after there were “above four hundreth communicantis “in the parish. Mr C. was a member of the Assembly in 1638, but was suspended by that of July 1648, referred by them to the next in July 1649, and deposed in 1650, for approving and praying in public for the army in England under the Duke of Hamilton for his Majesty's relief. He "suffered great miserie" afterwards; had his mouth opened (restored to the ministry) in 1659, and got an Act of Parliament in his favour 2nd July 1661. -(Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Reg. Sec.
