under a penalty of xm merks. He survived the Revolution, and was restored to his charge by the Act of Parliament 25th April 1690, but does not appear to have resumed it. He died in 1694, aged about 93, a very rare instance of a man attaining the 70th year of his min. During the days of persecution he was abused and scoffed at, by Meldrum commanding a party of soldiers, when he replied, “Sir, I was a minister before you had a being, and will be one when you are gone," which proved to be prophetic. His wife was accused of witchcraft at the Presb., but the charge was shown to be unfounded.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin. Sec. 1666. WALTER MARTIN, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 13th June 1651, became schoolmaster of Hawick, passed trials before the Presb., and was recommended 8th March 1665 for licence, pres. by Charles 11. 1st, and coll. and inst. 16th May 1666; died between 1st March and 13th June 1676, aged about 45. THOMAS WILKIE, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1668, passed trials before the Presb. and got a testimonial 1st March 1676 for licence, pres. by Charles II. 13th June, and inst. 28th Sept. same year; trans. to Beith, Ayrsh. before 15th June 1687.-[Edin. 1687. ROBERT SPOTSWOOD, A.M., formerly of Crichton, pres. by James VII. 15th June, and inst. 20th July; died in 1696, aged about 62. He had a daugh. Jean.-Reg. Sec. Sigill., Min.-Book Reg. Priv. Seal, Presb., and Edin. Reg. (Bur.), Rule's Sec. Vindication, MS. Account of Min. 1689.]
1689. THOMAS HARVIE, A.M., studied and acquired his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1665. Had been a min. in Ireland for thirteen years, and after being some time in England, attended the first meeting of min. in the Synod of Lothian, after the toleration, 6th July 1687. 1698. MUNRO GIBSONE, was a student at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1691, called in Jan. and ord. 15th April 1698; trans. to Sanquhar 18th Nov. 1713.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Presb. Reg.]
1714. GEORGE HALL, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh 26th June 1699, was chaplain to the laird of Torsonce, and licen. by the Presb. of Earlston 8th Aug. 1706, became chaplain to Thomas, Earl of Haddington, pres. by Queen Anne in May, and ord. 23rd Sept. 1714; was pres. to Lochmaben in 1722, but the Ares. was either set aside or withdrawn in the year following ; trans. to Linton, Teviotdale, 2nd Oct. 1728.-[Edin.
