1670. GEORGE BAPTIE, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 19th July 1661, licen. by George, Bishop of Edinburgh 21st Sept. 1665, ord. by Robert, Bishop of Dunblane 7th Nov. 1670, and inst. soon after. He complained to the Privy Council in Aug. 1676, of a riot committed on himself, when letters were issued against the persons engaged in it. He died in March 1688, aged about 47, in 18th min. 1689. THOMAS RUTHERFOORD, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 1st Aug. 1683; deprived by the Privy Council 4th Sept. 1689 for not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, and not praying for their majesties William and Mary-[Edin. Grad., MS. Acc. of Min. 1689, Peterkin's Constitution of the Church.]

 

1690. SAMUEL JOHNSTOUNE, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1677; be was a member of the Gen. Assembly 16th Oct. 1690, and trans. to Oxnam 1st June 1699, (which was not carried into effect), and afterwards to Dundee in same month-[Edin. Grad., Reg. Gen. Ass. 1690, Presb. Reg.]

 

1700 THOMAS THOMSONE, .A.M., trans. from Ednam, called 5th Aug. and adm. 6th Nov.; died 9th, and was buried 11th Feb. 1716, aged about 50, in 24th min. He was little known beyond the narrow circle of his co-presbyters, and a few gentlemen in the locality, by whom he was much respected for his piety and diligence in pastoral duty. He marr. in Oct. 1693, Beatrix, daugh. of Mr Alexander Trotter of Wideopen, par. of Morebattle, of which she became co-heiress. She retired in her widowhood to Edinburgh, and died 12th May 1725. They had Andrew, Alexander, James, Isobell, Margaret, Mary marr. Robert Craig, merchant, Edinburgh, Elizabeth marr. Mr Robert Bell, min. of Strathaven,--, Mr Robert Thomson, Lanark, and another. Of these the best known was James, the author of " The Seasons," who succeeded to the small estate of his mother, and was nominated Lowland-bursar by the Presbytery of Jedburgh 2d Nov. 1720, continued another year 1st Jan. 1724, and appointed to return certificates of his attendance upon the profession of divinity.-[Presb., Test., Ednam Sess., and Edin. [Mr THOMAS LAIK, licen. by the Presb. 7th Feb. 1711, was pres. by Archibald, Duke of Douglas in July; but the parishioners refusing to sign the call 19tb Dec. 1716, the settlement was not persisted in. He was min. afterwards of the Presbyterian congregation at Longframlington.-Presb. Reg.]

 

1718. JOHN INGLIS, licen. by the Presb. of Selkirk 2d Aug. 1711, pres. by Archibald, Duke of Douglas in April, and ord. 21st Aug. 1718; died after 6th April 1743, in 25th min. He left a library, of one hundred and nineteen volumes, to his successors in office.-[Presb. Reg.]

 

1736. JOHN OLIVER, licen. by the Presb. 3d Jan. 1 7 33, became assistant to the preceding, was Ares. by Arch., Duke of Douglas in July, and ord. (colleague and suc.) 24th Nov. 1736; died 25th Nov. 1755 in 20th min. Isobel Hall, his widow, died at London 21st Nov. 1771.- [Presb. Reg., &c.]
