1711. GEORGE ELLIOT, A.M., studied and acquired his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 29th April 1701, called 21st March and 13th May, and ord. (colleague and suc.) 19th Sept. 1711; died 16th Oct. 1748, in 72d age, and 48th min. Sarah Linn, his widow, died in England about 1765. He had four sons, John, George Augustus, John, and James, and four daugh., Margaret, Sarah, Jane, and Janet.-[Edin. Grad, Presb., Sess., and Test. Reg., Tombst.]
1749. JOHN ROGERS, assistant to Mr John Mutter, min. of Tranent, and afterwards to Mr David Brown, min. of Selkirk, pres. by Sir William Scott, of Ancrum, Bart. in Jan., and ord. 29th June; died 30th July 1774, in 26th min.-[Morren's Ann. i., Presb. Reg.]
1775. JAMES RUTHERFORD, licen. by the Presb. of Lauder 8th May 1770, became preacher to the Presbyterian congregation at Deal, in May 1773, and was ord. by the Scots Presb. in London 22d Sept. following, pres. by John, Duke of Roxburgh, 12th Jan., and adm. 30th March 1775; died 10th Nov. 1830, in his 84th year, and 58th min. He marr. 10th Jan. 1778 Eleanor Bell, who died 28th Oct. 1782; 2dly, 5th April 1785, Agnes, daugh. of Mr James Barclay, rector of the grammar-school, Dalkeith, she died 4th Jan. 1843, and had a son, George Baillie, who succeeded to the cure, and five daugh. 1818. GEORGE BAILLIE RUTHERFORD, son of the preceding, licen. by the Presb. 2d Oct. 1816, pres. by Ladies Essex and Mary Ker 23d Dec. 1817, and ord. KIRKTOWN. Previous to the Reformation, the church belonged to the Abbey of Cambuskenneth.
1585. GEORGE DOUCLAS A.M., had a gift of the parsonage and vicarage from James VI. 21st Jan. 1569, and was reader in 1574, died before 2d Dec. 1615, (his name does not appear later than 1585 in the Books of Assignation.)- [Reg. Pres., and Assig., Wodrow Miscell.]
1616. JAMES SCOTT, A.M., son of Walter S., in Catslak, was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 22d July 1615, pres. by James VI. 2d Dec. following, adm. probably in 1616 succeeded to Tongland prior to 1634.-[Reg. Pres., and Laur. Univ. Edin.]
1620. ROBERT BROUNLIE, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews in 1610, pres. by James VI. in May 1619, the Presb., 29th March thereafter, referred his collation and admission to the Bishop and meeting of the whole brethren at the Synod, and inhibited Mr Walter Makgill (min. of Cavers), " to mak ony molestation or hindrance in the premises directlie or indirectlie." He was a member of the Assembly 1638. His melancholy fate is thus recorded in a Decreet of Forfaltour against William Murray, brother to Patrick, Earl of Tullibardine.
