1635. john home, B.D., who had probably been pedagogue to the laird of Blackadder, pres.by Charles I. 2d March; he was a member of the Gen. Assembly 1638, and of the Commissions 1642—1646; continued 19th Oct. 1647, but under process, which was not finished in 1649.—[Reg. Sec. Sigill, and Pres., Syn. (Kelso Presb.), and Test. 1652. samuel douglas, A.M., trans, from Coldingham, adm. after Oct.; died Dec. thereafter, aged about 39. His buiks were estimat at jc Ii (One Hundred Pounds) utencils and domicills at jc li. He marr. Elizabeth, sister of George Home of Kames, and had issue Mr. Samuel D. of Burnhouses, ancestor of David Douglas of Reston, a lord of session. The widow and children had £100 allowed by Parliament from vacant stipends, 27th June 1661, on account of their sufferings in the royal cause.—[Syn. (Kelso Presb.), and Test. Reg. 1654. john jamieson, A.M., son of Mr "William J. of Jedburgh, "a good and able young man," attained his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews 11th May 1637, produced testimonials from the Presb. of Jedburgh 5th May 1652, and from the Presb. of Cupar, and Kirkcaldy, and Session of Mertein, of his sound and faithful teaching, and godly life and conversation; he was deprived by the Act of Parliament 11th June, and of the Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662.— Publication—-Rebellio debellata, two sermons, Edin. 1661, 12mo.—[Act Rect. 1655. ANDREW RUTHERFORD, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 26th July 649, called-------, and ord. (by the Protesting or remonstrant brethren.) A letter was laid before the Presb. of Jedburgh, 24th Jan. 1655, “complaining of the unrulie and extraordinar actings of some of their number (Mr. James Ker of Abbotrule, and Mr. John Scott of Hawick,) with others, at the pretended admission of Mr. A. R.," when the Presb. declared against their actings. Mr. John Livingstone of Ancrum dissenting. He seems to have been set aside by the Synod previous to the Restoration, was appointed Master of the grammar school of Jedburgh, and to the Rectorship of the High School, Edinburgh, 8th Oct. 1669, where he died in May 1672, aged about 43.—[Reg. 1663. john cook, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1648, pres. by James, Earl of Home,-------, ord. and coll. 21st July, and adm. 25th Aug. 1663. He petitioned the Privy Council, 2d Feb. 1683, stating that in the rebellion of 1679 "Turnbull of Bewly came with a party of horse to his house and robbed him of two good horses and four saddles, worth ijc Ii (Two Hundred Pounds)., on which they recommended the Lord High Treasurer (the Marquis of Queensberry), to order payment, if it appeared to him the said goods were robbed." Deprived by the Privy Council, 3d Sept. 1689, for not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, not praying for their majesties William and Mary, and absenting himself on the day appointed. The Presb. ordered the laird of Tofts to demand the keys of the church from Mr. C., or the Countess Dowager of Home, which being denied, the doors of the said kirk were opened by an order from the Sheriff. Mr. C. died in 1691, aged about 63, in 28th min. The utencils were valued at xlij Ii. vjs. viijd (Forty Two Pounds Six Shillings and Eight Pence), and the Inventar and detts amounted to jm ijc lvj Ii xvs. xd. He marr.
